Pilot project to bring clean water to the people living in Puerto Asis and Valle del Guamuez, Putumayo region.
One of the long-term goals of the Government of Colombia is to improve access to clean water for its people living in remote areas. Following a national competition entitled "Ideas for Change", the PAIS21 AQUAHUMANITAS Pilot Project was one of three schemes selected after review by COLCIENCIAS, ANSPE, and IDB, out of nearly 40 entrants. It was selected because LIFESAVER innovative water purification technology was assessed as being particularly well suited for people living in remote, rural areas.
126 LIFESAVER jerrycans deployed by PAIS21, guaranteeing villagers access to unlimited, free supplies of clean, sterile water for drinking and hygiene purposes, as well as providing added health, education and security benefits.
